View Hunting Trip SlideshowGlacier Guides conducts Brown Bear, Black Bear, Wolf, Sitka Black Tail Deer and Mountain Goat hunts in its 12 concession areas in Southeast Alaska. Based from the new 78-foot custom built yacht, the Alaskan Grandeur, accommodations for your adventure are luxurious.

Both Spring and Fall dates are available for Brown Bear, Black Bear and Wolf hunting.

For the Spring hunts, bears are foraging along the coastline in search of grass to sustain them until the late summer and fall salmon runs. Spot and stalk is a common approach in the Spring season with all the bear down along the beaches and grass flats. Shooting light extends until nearly midnight by late Spring. The most productive hunting generally occurs in the last hour of twilight, so high quality European Optics are a must, such as the Swarovski 1.5-6 x 42 Pro Hunter with 30 mm tube. We always try to get within 100-125 yards for the shot.

Fall hunting occurs along small streams where salmon are spawning. During September and October, all the bears are concentrating on laying on fat to sustain them in the coming Winter. Fall hunting involves still hunting practices of both sitting and walking. Though bears can be somewhat more diurnal than in the Spring, high quality optics are still very important for possible low light conditions. The average shot distance for the fall time is approximately 30-50 yards.

Glacier Guides maintain a very high success rate. With good weather, success is nearly 100%. Brown Bear average 9 foot square, with several in the 10 foot square class taken each year. Black Bear average over 7 foot square, with several 8 foot square taken each year. Since the Alaska Professional Hunters Association and Safari Club International began a joint awards program for Black Bear in 1988, Glacier Guides has taken nearly every 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awards! Nearly 50% of the Black Bear taken in Alaska in the Safari Club International Record Book were taken with Glacier Guides. Wolf hunting is opportunistic, with generally 2 or 3 taken each year.

Deluxe accommodations for you and your non-hunting companion, make this an adventure to share! Non-hunting companions are welcome to accompany you in the field hunting, or relax on board. An endless variety of wildlife, including Bald Eagles, Seal, Sea Lion, Humpback whale, Orca, Bear and Deer provide added enjoyment. The temperate Rainforest of this region furnishes breathtaking vistas.

Both Fall and Winter dates are available for Mountain Goat and Sitka Black Tail Deer hunting.

Mountain Goat and Sitka Black Tail Deer hunting occurs in either Fall or Winter. Fall hunts involve climbing to the alpine to access the larger mature males. Day trips are possible, returning to the Alaskan Grandeur nightly, but spike camping is generally more practical. Winter Goat and Deer hunts are based from the Alaskan Grandeur with hunters returning to the vessel each night. Winter hunts are generally less strenuous as snow has the goat and deer populations pushed down in to the lower elevations. Glacier Guides has very high success rates with both trophy quality Mountain Goat and Sitka Black Tail Deer.

Cost includes all except personal gear, licenses, tags and air charter to/from the vessel, F.O.B. Juneau or Petersburg, Alaska. Glacier Guides operates under U.S. Forestry Service Priority Use Permits on the Tongass National Forest.
