Glacier Bay/Fishing

Glacier Bay/Inside Passage Adventure Trips Glacier Bay was a great river of ice when John Muir explored it only a century ago. Now the bay is a water-filled fjord with glaciers falling out of the mountains to meet it. This awesome landscape of fjords, glaciers, and towering mountains is simply glorious, and we’ll feel as if we have it all to ourselves as we anchor in hidden coves, hike near massive tidewater glaciers, and kayak through pristine waters. A hike or paddle near the world's most famous glaciers will touch you for life - experiences you will never forget! The wildlife is as spectacular as the scenery, with Steller sea lions congregating on rocky islands, harbor porpoise feeding along the shores, and bald eagles peering down at us from ancient spruce trees. It is not uncommon for us to see Whales - most commonly Humpback, but also Orca if you are lucky, Sea Otter, Seals and yes, BEARS! After each day’s adventures, we return to the comfort of one of our custom-built yachts, watching for wildlife from the decks during the long Alaskan twilight.

The advancing and retreating characteristics of the glaciers in Glacier Bay National Park are explained in simple terms.  Up to 500 inches of precipitation falls on the 15,200 ft Mount Fairweather in the form of snow, compacting to ice.  As the ice mass is being pulled down by gravity, it moves from inches to feet each day, moving from the high mountain-top to the sea.  An unpredictable phenomenon that is observed in many glaciers in Glacier Bay is that of calving. Calving is a process in which pieces of ice get detached or break off from the glacier's face, irrespective of weather conditions, all the year round, and crash into the sea with thundering noise creating a boiling-like turbulence.

Let’s Cruise the Inside Passage and Glacier Bay National Park! Design your own itinerary that includes freshwater fishing for 4 species of Pacific Salmon and Arctic Char, Ocean fishing for huge Halibut and 5 species of Pacific Salmon, Kayaking among the ice floes near the face of a tidewater glacier, and cruising the beaches of Glacier Bay National Park where wildlife is abundant, and Tidewater glaciers spectacular. The Inside Passage has no ocean swell. This is a great Family Adventure or a Grand Escape for couples.

Fishing Luxury Sport Fishing with Alaska Glacier Guides is the ONLY way to fish - Warm, Dry, and Comfortable!! Don’t be caught out for the day on a small, cramped Sport-fisher with no heat, no place to sit, and only a ‘porti-potty’ for your day on the water. Come enjoy an elegantly finished 30’ Seasport Voyager for YOUR Alaskan experience. The S’eek has an outstanding Flybridge offering unobstructed 360 degree views, with comfortable seating for 3 guests, of the splendor we will be sure to experience. There is a full stand-up head with electric flush toilet, as well as comfortable seating for 6 guests inside the cabin, accommodated in both bench seating and a large settee. A twin-burner stove allows for a quick hot beverage or a hot meal on board if desired.

If you’d like, bring along a non-fishing companion - theirs is a warm, dry, and comfortable place to enjoy the day. We’ll probably even enjoy a world-class Whale ‘show’ and take delight in sea lion and sea otter sightings - not to mention a myriad of sea birds and numerous Bald Eagles. Fish for giant Pacific Halibut, set the hook on an aggressive Salmon, or jig for a myriad of tasty Rockfish!

Fishing takes place from the S’eek, a 30’ Seasport Voyager Sport-fisher. We will troll or jig for salmon, and jig near the bottom for huge halibut. We have all the saltwater fishing gear and bait, all you need is the arm strength to bring in the fish!

On another day of your adventure with us, imagine standing along a pristine stream, among towering ancient Sitka Spruce and Hemlock trees, where the only traffic on the river ahead of you are the bear! Next, imagine Fly Fishing for 4 species of Pacific Salmon, Arctic Char, Cutthroat, and Rainbow Trout where the action is steady - sometimes a fish every cast! Enjoy the wonder of the World’s last true and unspoiled Temperate Old Growth Rain Forest and all the bounty of the seas that surround the myriad of forested islands in Southeast Alaska’s Alexander’s Archipelago. This is truly an experience not soon to be Forgotten.... Don’t have the right equipment and gear? Not to worry! With advance notice, we have Fly Rods and Wading Gear available for Rent.

We also have Fly Selections For Sale - patterns that are proven to work on our streams for Alaskan species of fish. We really recommend fly fishing, and are willing to teach and help anyone who is willing to try the ‘pure’ form of fishing. It is at times a fish a cast!
